Sponsor a child

Children in Nepal
We recognize that the children of Nepal are vulnerable to many problems. Many of them are already victims of these problems. Some of these problems are as follows:-
1.  Poverty
     Poor infrastructure & systems
2.  Caste system
3.  Exploitative child labor
4.  Street children
5. War victims
6. Disease & HIV/AIDS infections
7. Malnutrition
8. Sexual exploitation and trafficking

Challenges for Children
Progress in ending the political strife is a welcome development. However, the decade of strikes, road blocks and conflict shattered Nepal's fragile economy, leaving already poor families with even bleaker opportunities for a decent livelihood. Children and women have become highly vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, family separation, recruitment for conflict-related purposes and illegal detention. This is in addition to Nepal's long history of caste discrimination and social marginalization, which causes immense disparities within society. With the reinstatement of a stable government, the Nepalese people are also faced with issues of reconciliation, social inclusion and child protection.

Numbers at a Glance
• Over 45 percent of the population is unemployed, half of whom are youth;
• Only 41 percent of children ages 3-5 have access to early childhood development programs; and
• Approximately 84 percent of adolescents and youth have dropped out of the formal education system.

Looking at these situations, HNF has provided scholarships for school education to 5 children (3 girls and 2 boys) from very remote area of South- Lalitpur and Nuwakot districts. These children are from poor and struggling families, some of them are orphans too. The scholarship covers their accommodation, school fess, food, uniforms and basic stationery. Through this program, we also encourage for the children's personal development through various activities. The scholarship has motivated the students for their education and has improved their performance.
To provide the education and to provide better health for many children, HNF aims to sponsor 10 children within the year 2010. We believe that the little efforts and a little support from all of us can make many lives better and saved too. Many children will be protected from going to street lives and they will get the light as they get education. They can be competitive in the world as they get better health and education. So, your efforts will be much appreciative.

Sponsoring children can be made in 3 ways:

Semi Sponsorship:
There are many families, parents in Nepal who have a little house and some food for their families but they are not able to provide school fees and stationary materials for their children to send them to school. They also are not able to send them lunch in the school and many children drop out from school because of their hunger. Sponsoring children can benefit them and they can get a better life and better education, health. Semi Sponsorship includes providing them a good education and school breakfast (Lunch) only. It covers school fees, books, stationary materials and breakfast (lunch) at school. The cost for the Sponsorship scheme is $360 per year and $30 per month. (See breakdown of the cost)

Half Sponsorship: There are numerous families and parents in Nepal who are very poor in their economy. They get up and go to earn money for their day by day food. They don't have time to look after their kids and to nurture them too. They get very less wages which is not even enough for their lunch and dinner for everyday. It means that these parents are not able to send their kids to school due to their extreme bad and poor economy. It has caused many children staying at home or in the streets rather than going to school. The scheme of half sponsorship can be a great benefit for such children and parents. Half Sponsorship includes providing children a good education, clothing, and breakfast (Lunch). It covers school fees, books, required stationary materials, school uniforms, school shoes, school bags and breakfast (Lunch) at school. Political instability, chronic insecurity and widespread poverty continue to severally hamper development opportunities. Needs remain particularly high in remote and conflict-affected areas of the country. There was the loss of thousands husbands and wives. Many children became orphans and many became homeless. It is very tragic and sad situation when we see such terrible condition of thousands of children. Thousands of children are at risk. In many ways, children have been adversely affected by the armed conflict in Nepal. They and/or their parents have been killed or disabled. They have been psychologically traumatized. Their education has been interrupted.  They have been displaced from their home towns. Their physical development has been affected by the lack of nutrition as a direct result of the war. A number of children have even been forced to become child soldiers.
